All Of These Things But None of Them

ALL OF THESE THINGS (BUT NONE OF THEM) My opposing opinion I did not
Disrespectfully blurt,
Yet surprisingly some so-called Punks
Were unduly butthurt.
I was not mean or too extreme, in fact
I myself live outside the mainstream.
There's certainly good energy to their music,
But I feel much of the ethos is kinda stupid.
So here's a warning, an invitation if you find their shoulders nippy:
Stay away from underage drunks and punks,
And come join me with the hippies.
The hippies said, "Here take this,
And you'll stay forever young."
Now there's not much I'll take from a stranger,
And put it under my tongue.
But it turned me inside out,
Over under sideways down,
Smiled so wide like a clown
That my face broke into a frown.
When I finally did come to and asked, "What is this terrible music?"
Hippie looked at me and said,
"That's the Grateful Dead, stupid."
I took a sip and a long strange trip but my scene this wasn't it.
I'm into mind expansion not noodle dancin',
So I got my kicks and I split.
Then I headed South with a Cowboy mouth,
For the heat, the food, the accent.
My Daddy was a Country singer.
So my love for that's no accident.
Now you can take the boy out of the country,
But you can't take the Country out of me.
I like the twang of that Memphis thang
And some good old southern hospitality.
Music City's got some pickers
And masters of the craft.
But them big ol' boots and even bigger hats
Simply not where my heart's at.
The biggest part of my heart
Belongs to Tennessee.
So I'll keep those licks in the mix
While the search goes on for me.
I'm all of these things and none of them.
They're a part of me for a while then they're gone again.
I am all of these things but none of them.
I like little bits and pieces of every one of them.
